Highlights of 2012

Ok, I know.  I'm late.  I have a very valid excuse, but that doesn't matter :)

What a year it was.  I don't entirely know where to start.  Probably the biggest lesson I learned is that the relationships worth fighting for are the ones you will most likely have to fight for.  If that makes any sense.  It's not easy to remain close to individuals when they know your every fault and you know theirs.  But it's worth it to stick it out.

Highlights:

My great Aunt and Uncle coming out for a visit.

Camping on the North Rim.  That was epic.  Someday I want to take my kids there.

Welcoming a beautiful little lady into the family.  We girls are once more even with the boys.

Hearing that one of my sisters is expecting a girl in May.  I'm gonna be an aunt :)  Kinda weird. o.O

Our butcher put a bill for over $20,000 into my hands and said it was the single largest invoice he'd ever written.  That was one of the most humbling moments of my life.  A lot of people trusted me with a lot of money, and God allowed the whole transaction to go through almost without a hitch.

Welcoming 2 friend's babies into the world.

Walking 2 students through monumental projects (there will be pics, I promise!).

An awesome Thanksgiving party.

Reading my Bible 365 days out of 366 (I was sick and missed a day).  I am ashamed that it took me until I was 20 to pull that off, but I'm so thankful that God blessed the effort and doubly excited to do it again this year.

Goals for 2013:

Already mentioned, reading my Bible every single day.  This year I am planning on reading straight through, from cover to cover.

Begin serious work on my sewing curriculum.

Get this whole HTML/CSS/JavaScript thing sorted out and pinned down.

Learn Spanish (I have a student ID.  SO so so weird to be a "college student" even if it is just for one class).

James 4:13-16 keeps coming to mind:

Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

There's actually quite a bit that requires doing this year.  I've never felt so "up in the air."  I can't plan for this year, in fact I don't even know what city or state I'll be in at the end of the year.  Talk about letting go of control.  As a control freak, this is leagues out of my comfort zone.  But God is good and I have no doubt that He will get the Glory, and that I am best and safest in obedience and trust.

So, blessings to y'all this New Year!  I look forward to deepening my friendships with those of you that I know "for real" and following the adventures of those I know online!  I can't wait to see what God has in store.

I often have the camera, so I don't have many pics from this year of me.
This one happens to be me, running on 5 hours of sleep, because I was in the middle of a nanny job.
4 kids, age 10 to 4 months.  All boys.  Yes, I was whipped.

No, this isn't me.
This big guy just walked through our front yard a few weeks ago.
6 years in this house, first time seeing a javy here.

The new recruit and the "Drill Sergeant (yours truly)."  Yes, they really call me that.

  1. Oh my- I love the photo of you and the new recruit- I wish I could take sewing lessons from you. I just started sewing. And this year, 2013, will be LORD willing the first year I read the Bible through.
    Blessings in Christ, Faith.

  2. Thanks, she's really cute and so sweet :)
I hope you enjoy sewing - it's a valuable skill. You should look up "stitches and pins" and the books that go with it. Very helpful I thought (I was self-taught for the first 6 years, before I had private instruction). Also, "sew what skirts" is a nice tool (the art is questionable, which is a real bummer: it has maybe 7 images that I would cover. 1940s pin up type stuff).
I was 18, I think, when I first read the Bible all the way through. It's definitely a worthwhile endeavor :)
